Tips for Enjoying the Holidays with Furry Friends

The holiday season brings all sorts of joys, like catching up with family and friends, eating favorite foods and exchanging gifts. The whirlwind of holiday activities, however, is no excuse to forget about Fluffy and Fido.

The makers of Teddy’s Pride, a probiotic oral care product specially designed for cats and dogs, offers the following pet-friendly tips for the holiday season:

•    Keep up regular care. No matter how busy you are, make sure that you stick to your pet’s regular schedule as much as possible. Remember to keep dogs exercised – taking time for walks will not only keep them healthy but also help you work off that extra eggnog.

•    Watch your pets’ diets. Make sure that Santa’s cookies don’t go to Santa’s Little Helper. Rich and fatty foods, chocolate, tea, coffee, animal bones, raw yeast dough, grapes, macadamia nuts, alcohol and artificial sweeteners can all wreak havoc on your pet’s digestive system, so be sure to keep them out of reach. When choosing holiday treats for your pets, choose healthy foods like cooked egg white, and offer them in moderation.

•    Be careful about holiday decorations.
Don’t use loose tinsel, as some dogs and cats may eat it and end up with intestinal blockages. Avoid edible tree decorations, as greedy pets may knock over the tree in an attempt to get to cranberries, popcorn or gingerbread. Holly, mistletoe and poinsettias are all toxic to pets, so make sure that pets can’t reach them. Better yet, avoid decorating with them all together.

•    Keep pets calm. Not all pets are great with visitors. If you’re hosting a large gathering, put cats and dogs in a separate room with a pet safety gate or in a kennel, so they can stay out of the commotion.

•    Don’t introduce new pets. The holidays are the worst time to get a new pet. Your schedule will be off, making it more difficult to settle your new pet into a routine, and your older pets will have to deal with the extra stress of a new pet on top of the stress brought on by guests and interrupted schedules.

If you want to give your pet a gift this holiday, why not start with something that will show benefits for as long as it is used? Teddy’s Pride helps eliminate bad breath via an odorless, tasteless formula that can be easily administered by sprinkling it on pets’ food.
