<p>(<a href=NewsUSA) – This Father’s Day, shoppers can go beyond the neckwear, coffee mugs or golf balls and choose a gift that will help Dad extend the life and improve the appearance of his shoes.

The Buff ‘n Shine polisher – a battery-operated device that features a slow-moving shoe polish applicator on one of its two heads and a fast-moving polishing brush on the other – is included in a complete shoe care kit offered at participating Wal-Mart stores this Father’s Day.

First introduced in December 2005, the Buff ‘n Shine struck a chord with those who have limited time and “don’t want to deal with dirty rags and polish applicators,” said Douglas Whitner, president of Boxwood Industries in Cleveland, manufacturer of the product.

“Buff ‘n Shine cuts shoe care polishing time in half, compared to conventional methods,” Whitner said. “Plus, it eliminates the mess associated with conventional shoe polishing.”

The device is powered by AA batteries, eliminating the need for a bulky charger. The batteries provide dozens of shines before needing to be replaced.

“It is particularly popular with members of the armed services, safety forces and business community,” Whitner said. “Men or women on their way to an important meeting or even a black tie event can restore luster to their shoes without ever touching the polish.”

The kit also includes tins of Kiwi black and brown shoe polish, replacement heads for the polishing device and a travel kit that makes shoe care easily transportable.

The product was designed by Nottingham-Spirk Design Associates in Cleveland, which has developed products ranging from the Dutch Boy plastic paint container to the innovative Crest SpinBrush.

The kit sells for approximately $20.
